Cup of Tea

Leslie Weatherhead preached for years in London. He told the story of a young nurse at City Hospital who had just started when she was assigned a terminally ill man. Unnerved and frightened, she turned to an older physician. “Doctor, when this man dies, what do I say to his wife?”

The old doctor replied, “Don’t say anything; just make her a cup of tea.”

Then pastor Weatherhead would explain, “If wine poured out at the communion table is the uttermost symbol of God’s love for people, then that tea was sacred, too, poured out by a minister of God in a nurse’s uniform.”

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge, with this warm reminder: The immense power of love in the smallest act reveals the high calling of our daily work.

So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.
